Innovate UK Smart grants: November 2024
£15m to support micro, small or medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and their partners in developing genuinely new innovations in all sectors with significant potential for rapid economic return to the UK.
Project size: from £100,000 to £1,000,000
Application deadline: 22 January 2025
Canada-UK Collaborative R&D
£3 million pot for collaboration with Canadian SMEs on joint R&D projects. Particularly welcome applications within Life Sciences, Digital and emerging technologies, Sustainability and net zero.
- Grant size: up to £300,000 (UK) / CA$500,000 (Canada)
- Application deadline: 16 April 2025 (Registration deadline 8 January 2025)
Launchpads
This funding is from Innovate UK’s Launchpad programme which supports the UK government’s goals for local economic growth. See below for the sector-relevant competitions within the programme:

EIT Food’s Impact Funding Framework Window 5
Larger-scale collaborative programmes and innovative single projects to promote ambitious, long-term collaboration that will lead to food systems change to benefit us all. Projects should focus on:
- Improving the impact of diet on obesity and non-communicable disease
- Reducing food-system-related environmental harms
- Dealing with the threats posed by food integrity and complex supply chains
- Project size: Collaborative Missions Programme Funding: €250,000-€750,000 (~£208,000-£624,000); up to 24 months. Single Project Funding: €10,000-€1,000,000 (~£8,000-£832,000); 12-18 months

Ofwat – Water Breakthrough Challenge 5
£40 million available to highly collaborative water-sector innovations, aiming to deliver benefits for customers, society and the environment.

ARIA – Exploring Climate Cooling
£56.8m funding pot to answer the most critical technical and fundamental questions on the practicality, measurability, controllability, and likely side-effects of approaches that might one day be used to actively cool the Earth.

British High Commission in Tanzania – Contracts for Innovation: Clean Energy Demonstrators in Tanzania
£1.8m funding pot to develop innovative clean energy demonstrators in Tanzania, especially projects contributing to an inclusive and clean energy transition, extend the benefits of clean energy to all and meet Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 7 and 13.
- Project size: between £200,000 – £800,000
- Application deadline: 17 January 2025
UK PACT – Call for Proposals open: Energy Efficiency in Indonesia
Seeking proposals for projects that advance decarbonisation of the industrial and building sector through energy efficiency and electrification in Indonesia, with a specific focus on reducing carbon emissions and supporting the country’s energy transition goals. This competition welcomes not-for-profit organisation led projects.
• Project size: up to £800,000 per project per financial year

Shake Climate Change: Cohort 5
The SHAKE Climate Change entrepreneurship programme has secured £845K to invest in new projects that will help deliver the next generation of climate friendly farming.

Innovate UK – Innovation Loans Future Economy: Round 18
£25m pot for game-changing and commercially viable R&D innovations that can significantly impact the UK economy.

Horizon Europe – EIC accelerator
£532 million funding pot under Horizon Europe that offers support to start-ups and SMEs that have an innovative, game changing product, service or business model that could create new markets or disrupt existing ones in Europe and even worldwide.
